Gamescom 2011: PlayStation Prediction Report

Logo of Gamescom

Next week is the annual Gamescom event held in Germany which is a considerably larger expo than E3 due to its open to the public policy.  What are the big predictions for Sony?  Well according to Colin Moriarty of IGN we can probably plan to hear at least about some of the following:

PlayStation 3 Price Drop

The rumors have been around for over 2 years, but will it become true?  It was in 2009 when Sony dropped the price from $400 to $300 and considering the edge they need for competition, this might be the time for a second drop, as the previous announcement was also at Gamescom.

Syphon Filter Reboot

This is purely speculative on the original authors concepts but when you write an entry about predictions, you are no doubt going to use your best educated guesses.  The theory is that a huge fanbase for the Syphon Filter franchise still exists and as SCE Bend Studio is almost at completion with their PS Vita title: Uncharted: Golden Abyss, they more than likely have another secret project in the works.  Might it be a new Syphon Filter?  Fans will rejoice and others will build golden statues of Colin Moriarty in awe of his conjuring perception skills.

God of War IV

It’s no doubt the world will one day hear of God of War V, so that means we will eventually have to hear about God of War IV.  With the well-documented success of the God of War franchise on PlayStation systems, it’s difficult to think that Santa Monica Studio isn’t toiling away on the most obvious choice: God of War IV.

PlayStation 2 Games to PSN

The final guess is a blanket announcement about PS2 titles coming to PSN.  With an upscaled HD design and trophy upgrade many of these classic hit titles are definitely hot market items, and it would make sense to release them.  Lord knows many of our developers and writers here at GGD still get our moneys worth out of PS1 titles released through PSN, so it’s just a matter of time and hopefully this years Gamescom will be that time.

As GameGuideDoggians have not yet made the trek yet to Gamescom (probably next year though), we are merely reporting the related news from the highest level with hopes they know what they might be talking about.  What do you think of they’re predictions? What are yours? Let us know in the comments below.
